LAPEER — Six pieces of artwork created by Lapeer High School students, from the Top 100 in the state, were accepted into the Michigan Youth Arts Festival (MYAF) show. The artists are James Felton, Olivia Coulter, Jeslyn Vollmers, Lea Herr, Kelee Byard and Olivia Phillips.
Their art will be on display at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo from May 12-14.
LHS art and technology teacher Amy Linton said, “We are so proud of our artists at LHS. They all work very hard at what they create and they challenge themselves daily. As an art teacher and a member of the MAEA, Kelly Wagner and I were able to enter five pieces each of students work in our regions show that was held at Gallery 194 here in Lapeer. From that show, the six pieces were chosen to go onto judging at the state level. All of their hard work paid off as all six pieces were accepted into the MYAF as part of the top 100 in the state.”
Linton continued, “Olivia Phillips’ and Jeslyn Vollmers’ artwork is part of the top 25. Their art will be in the Governor’s Traveling Art Show. That collection of art will travel from school to school of those in the top 25 for the following school year. We will be hosting the show here at LHS during the month of November. Olivia Phillips was also given an additional honor of being placed in the top 18 in the state. She will be honored at a luncheon at WMU on May 14. The MYAF runs from May 12-14 at Western Michigan University in the Richmond Gallery.” Linton added, “Olivia Phillips is a senior at LHS and the rest of the students are juniors.”
Coulter and Vollmers were among the top 25 artists. They will be a part of the Governor’s Traveling Art Show that will visit high schools across the state.
Coulter was also given another high honor as her work was chosen as on one of the top 18. She will be honored at a luncheon next month.
LHS will host the show in the library during the month of November.
