County pays tribute to fallen heroes whose sacrifices help ensure freedom and democracy






Mel Rapadas of Mayfield Township, a U.S. Army veteran who served from 1963-1966, salutes a miniature American flag he placed at a grave marker Friday morning at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lapeer to commemorate Memorial Day. Rapadas and another half-dozen members of the Lapeer American Legion Post 16 placed more than 400 flags at Mt. Hope Cemetery alone, while other veteran organizations placed flags at cemeteries across Lapeer County. See Insight section for Memorial Day coverage.
