Toddler Block Party today at Ruth Hughes Library

IMLAY CITY — Ruth Hughes Memorial District Library, 211 N. Almont Ave. in Imlay City, will host a Toddler Block Party today (Nov. 21) at 11 a.m. The event will includes games, along with activities to promote problem solving, imagination and social skills.

Free Thanksgiving dinner to be served at Elk’s Lodge

LAPEER — The Lapeer Elk’s Lodge 2567, 200 E. Nepessing St., will serve a free family-style Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 22 to the public from noon to 3 p.m.

Family Literacy Center to host ‘Friendsgiving’ on Nov. 27

LAPEER — The Family Literacy Center will host a “Friendsgiving” for its students, tutors and donors. The potluck meal will take place at the organization’s office on 311 Higgins St. in downtown Lapeer on Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 4-6 p.m. to coincide with Giving Tuesday.

Almont’s Holly Day Light Parade, Santa visit on Dec. 1

ALMONT — Almont’s 21st Annual Holly Day Light Parade will be held along Main Street on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. Santa will visit with children from 4-6 p.m. before the parade at 515 S. Main St. Deadline for float entry is Nov. 28.

Dryden Twp. Christmas Lights Parade to be held Dec. 6

Historical Society calendars on sale at museum in Lapeer

LAPEER — Looking for a holiday gift that can be enjoyed all year? The Lapeer County Historical Society is selling its 2019 collector calendar for $12. This year’s theme features Lapeer County sites that are on the National Register of Historic Sites. The calendars are on sale at the Lapeer County Historical Museum, 518 W. Nepessing St. in Lapeer. Holiday Depot accepting applications for help

LAPEER — Holiday Depot of Lapeer County at two locations is accepting applications from low-income residents who can use help this holiday season with gifts and food for their families.

Locations and dates are:

• First Presbyterian Church, 433 N. Calhoun in Lapeer — Nov. 27 from noon to 3 p.m.;

• Holiday Depot Gift Center, 110 W. Park in downtown Lapeer — Dec. 1, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Applicants must bring a valid driver’s license or ID, birth certificates or Social Security cards for all children in the household and proof of household income for the past 30 days.

Grace Episcopal to serve ‘Community Dinner’ on Nov. 30

LAPEER — Grace Episcopal Church in Lapeer, 735 W. Nepessing, will serve a “Community Dinner” from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30. Meal includes ham, scalloped potatoes, buttered carrots, dessert and beverage. Cost is $8 at the door.

Free coats at St. Paul Lutheran

LAPEER — St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer, 90 Millville Rd., will hold its annual free coat distribution from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 1, 8, 15. Snow pants, gloves, scarves and boots available too.

Individual must be present to receive one coat per person.

Lapeer County Concert Choir to perform Christmas concerts at Imlay City, Lapeer churches

LAPEER — The Lapeer County Concert Choir will present its 51st Annual Christmas Concert titled “Bound for Bethlehem” featuring 15 Christmas carols at two locations:

Friday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.: Imlay City Christian Reformed Church, 395 N. Cedar St.;

Sunday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m.: Trinity Lutheran Methodist Church, 1310 N. Main St. in Lapeer.

‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ opens Nov. 30 at PIX Theatre

LAPEER — The Lapeer Community Theatre will present ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the PIX Theatre in Lapeer. The play introduces showgoers to Elizabeth and Henry, the proprietors of the shop and the center of life in a town where everyone knows your name.

Tickets are on sale at www.centerfortheartslapeer.org, and will be available at the door for $14; students and seniors, $12. Advance online tickets offer a $2 per ticket discount.

Winter Playground to be held Nov. 30 in downtown Imlay City

IMLAY CITY — The 2018 Winter Playground will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 in downtown Imlay City. Santa will make his grand entrance during the parade that begins at 6 p.m., lead the community tree lighting ceremony and visit with children.

The parade will start at the Farmers’ Market parking lot and loop through downtown. Immediately following the parade the community Christmas tree, located at the police station, will be lit with a ceremony that ushers in the holiday season to Imlay City. Santa will visit with children following the parade, and Mrs. Claus will read stories to children at Imlay City Florist.

Holiday Spectacular seeks crafters, business vendors

DEERFIELD TWP. — Lapeer County 4-H Summer Camp Committee will hold its 2nd annual Craft and Vendor Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Deerfield Township Hall at the southeast corner of Burnside Road and M-24. All proceeds from the event will help support camp scholarships for local youth ages 5-12 to attend camp in July 2019.

LAPEER — Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for children to visit at the Santa House in front of the farmer’s market pavilion in downtown Lapeer. Hours are:

• Friday, Nov. 30: 5-8 p.m.

• Mondays, Dec. 3, 10, 17: 5-7 p.m.

• Fridays, Dec. 7, 14, 21: 5-7 p.m.

• Saturday, Dec. 1: Following the Christmas parade that starts at 11 a.m.

American Legion Post to serve spaghetti dinner

LAPEER — To raise money for its scholarship fund, the American Legion Post 16 in Lapeer, 1701 W. Genesee St., will serve a spaghetti dinner to the public from 4:45-7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Cost is: $6 for seniors (65-plus); $7 for adults (ages 13-64); $4 for children (ages 7-12). Six and under eat for free.

Celebrity autograph items being accepted for 4-H auction in April

LAPEER — In preparation for its Friday, April 5 annual Celebrity Autographed Items Auction, the Lapeer County 4-H Youth Program is accepted donations from the public of autographs of famous people. Autographs can be of all types of wellknown people on any type of item, for example autographs on books, sports stars on balls, movie stars on photographs. ‘Blankies’ project welcomes new members to provide comfort to memory care patients

LAPEER — New members and participants are welcome to join the Blankies project to provide comfort to people with Alzheimer’s, veterans and senior citizens. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1310 W. Main in Lapeer.

Holiday Depot collects personal hygiene products

LAPEER — The Holiday Depot of Lapeer County is holding a personal hygiene product drive, and is accepting items at its office location at 110 W. Park St. in downtown Lapeer. The public is welcome to donate items like body wash, bar soap, shampoo, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouth wash, deodarant, shaving supplies, toilet paper, diapers, hair brushes, combs, nail clippers, etc.
