Lapeer County COVID-19 update:

Three deaths, four hospitalized at McLaren Lapeer


Editor’s note: The Lapeer County Health Dept. (LCHD) posts COVID-19 updates each Friday. The following is a summary of data from the Aug. 26 report (since Aug. 19).

• New deaths: Three. Total deaths: 405 to date. Probable, 23 for a total of 425. Deaths last week claimed the lives of two people in their 80s, and one in their 60s.

• New confirmed cases (since Aug. 19): 80 (total 18,368 to date); 24 new probable cases. Probable cases to date, 3,774. The above case numbers are lab reported; many home tests have been completed, but are not reported to county and state health officials.

• Hospitalized at McLaren Lapeer Region (as of Friday, Aug. 26): Four. One in the intensive care unit. Highest last week at the hospital: Four.

• Level of COVID transmission in county: Low

• Lapeer County daily positive test rate: 20.66%

• New COVID-19 admissions per 100,000 people in Lapeer County: 140.4 cases from Aug. 18-24.

Vaccination clinics

• Walk-in clinic hours at the county health department, 1800 Imlay City Rd. in Lapeer Township, are only on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3-6 p.m.

The LCHD has begun to administer vaccine for children ages six months and above.

Treatment options have improved, and include monoclonal antibodies and antiviral medications. However, most have a “window” of effectiveness. Don’t delay treatment. If you are sick, call your doctor for diagnosis and timely treatment.
