Imlay City pool, new splash pad open this holiday weekend

IMLAY CITY — Residents and visitors to Imlay City are gearing up for some fun in the sun.

Memorial Day weekend marks the opening of the Alvin Norlin Pool, and along with it, the debut of the city’s new splash pad.

Beginning Saturday, May 29, both the pool and the splash pad will be available for weekend open swim until June 14. From June 14 through Sept. 6, both water features will be available to guests seven days a week.

Located next to the city’s water tower adjacent to Lamb Steele Park, the Alvin Norlin Pool is a 30-by-70-foot public pool that’s been a fixture in Imlay City since 1992. Newly constructed beside the pool is the city’s new splash pad, a 42-by-100-foot area that features more than a dozen water features as well as shaded structures.

Admission to both the pool and splash pad is $4 per person, or $3 per person in evenings and mornings or for water aerobics. Tickets are $1 for children three-and-under, senior citizens and veterans. A family season pass is available for $135, while a single person season pass can be purchased for $60. A “Super Saver” pass, good for 15 visits, is $35.

A number of special summer events are also scheduled throughout the season, beginning with free entry on Saturday from 1-5 p.m.

On Saturday, June 19, the pool will host a “Moonlight Swim” for guests aged nine and older from 9-11 p.m. at $4 per person. Other Moonlight Swim events are slated for Friday, July 23 and Saturday, Aug. 21.

On Saturday, Aug. 14, swimmers aged 5-12 are invited to a free Sesquicentennial Water Race at 10 a.m., while the following Monday guests can enjoy a “floatable fun afternoon” from 1-5 p.m. for $4 per person.

Throughout the season, swim lessons are also offered Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon, or Tuesday and Thursday from 5-7 p.m. Water aerobics are held Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-7 p.m.
