CYNTHIA ANN TUZINSKY

CYNTHIA ANN TUZINSKY, For those of us blessed to have known life with Cindy, the color of the day will forever be Red. Red, the color of love, the color of excitement, and the color of courage, was Cindy’s favorite color. During her years of independence, Cindy put so much time and energy into selecting her ‘color of the day’ for her work experience at Growth & Opportunity of Lapeer for the greater part of 20 plus years. Her excitement was shared with her family and friends as they selected red accessories and clothing to join in on the fun. While red seemed to be her special color, the rest of us associated Cindy with brightness. Her brightness came from her innocence, her sass, and her excitement for life. When the burdens of this world darkened the light for the rest of us, one of the unexpected gifts of Down Syndrome equipped Cindy with the ability to change our perspective, focus on the light and blessings, and find our way forward with a smile through the tears.

Cynthia Ann Tuzinsky blazed into the world on August 26 in 1954. Born in Rochester, MI to her loving parents, Steve and Lillian Tuzinsky, Cindy was doted on by her six siblings. As she grew up, in a world that tended to limit those born with Down Syndrome, Cindy thrived as a passionate family party planner, official lover of all the babies, and vacation and travel extraordinaire. An avid participant in the Special Olympics, Cindy thrived in the competitions for softball throw, bowling, swimming, and basketball. In the years when her independence began to wane, Cindy enjoyed her time at home being the ultimate family gift-giver, jokester, and center of attention. For all the lives she has touched, the world doesn’t seem as bright without her in it. Our lives have forever been affected, and changed, by our favorite redhead and lady in red.

Cindy was preceded in death by her loving parents; brother Raymond, and niece Megan. She is survived by siblings, Thomas (Peggy) Tuzinsky, Michael Tuzinsky, Mary Ann (Kevin) Hardwick, Carol (Frank) Choate, and Dede (Allan) Johnson.
