Air Quality Alert issued for Lapeer County on WednesdayFree Access

LAPEER COUNTY — The Michigan Dept. of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy has declared Wednesday, May 31 to be an action day for Lapeer and Genesee counties for elevated levels of ozone. Pollutants are expected to be in the unhealthy for sensitive groups range, compounded by high temperatures and light winds. An Air Quality Alert has been issued for many counties today in southeast Michigan. They too will be under an alert on Wednesday.

Air Quality Alerts are common on hot, sunny days with little wind, because on these days air pollution stays concentrated and closer to the ground. Ground-level ozone can trigger asthma attacks and decrease lung function. People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead to ozone formation. These activities include refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling, using gasoline powered lawn equipment and using charcoal lighter fluid. It is recommended that active children and adults, and people with respiratory diseases such as asthma, limit prolonged outdoor exertion.

Wednesday in Lapeer County is expected to see temperatures in the upper 80s with southeast winds 10 to 15 mph, and even warmer Thursday and Friday when temperatures may top 90 degrees. If you’re looking for rain, the next chance for some precipitation for lawns, flowers, gardens and farm fields isn’t until early to mid-next week. It has been 11 days since Lapeer County saw any rainfall.
