LAPEER — A Memorial Day parade and ceremony will be held Monday, May 27 in downtown Lapeer to honor those who gave their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on East Nepessing Street at Saginaw Street, following a brief ceremony at the bridge to honor naval veterans. Lineup for parade participants will begin at 9:30 a.m. The parade is open for participation to local churches, veteran groups, non-profit organizations and owners of classic cars and trucks.

Following the parade a ceremony will be held at Veterans Memorial Park (across from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church). A new War on Terror monument will be dedicated.

Lapeer Mayor Bill Sprague will welcome the public to the event, his last official act as mayor as he recently accepted a new job that won’t allow the time to continue to serve.

The Lapeer Memorial Day parade is co-hosted by: the City of Lapeer, Lapeer Area Chamber of Commerce, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4139 in Mayfield Township, American Legion Post 16, Voiture 40&8 of Lapeer, Marine Corps League of Lapeer, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 287 of Lapeer County, Lapeer County Vietnam Commemorative Committee, Faith Christian Family Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and the View Newspaper Group.
