Lapeer golf sixth at Genesee County Tourney

GRAND BLANC — The Lapeer boys’ golf team took home sixth place with a team-total 344 at the Genesee County Tournament at Flint Elks Lodge #222 on Monday.

Flint Powers Catholic won the tournament with a 321, Grand Blanc was second with a 328 and Fenton was third with a 331. Swartz Creek finished fourth with a 337 and Lake Fenton was fifth with a 341.

Carson Butterfield led the Lightning with a 73, giving him third place individually in the tournament. Nate Woloszyk carded an 87, Lucas Skwirsk had a 91 and Sean Nolan finished with a 93. Will Cousins also competed for the Lightning, carding a 111.

On Saturday, Lapeer finished second with a 336 at the Bay City Western Invitational at Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course. Saginaw Heritage won with a 328, Bay City Western was third with a 377, Essexville-Garber fourth with a 386 and Bay City Central fifth with a 479.

Butterfield led the Lightning with a 77 on the day, good for second overall in the tournament. Mason Cooper finished third overall with an 81, Jake McGeary was sixth overall with an 84 and Skwirsk and Woloszyk both finished with a pair of 94s.

Lapeer is back at Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course today for the second Saginaw Valley League jamboree of the season. — A.V.

ALMONT

Almont finished first with a 172 during a Blue Water Area Conference match at Richmond Forest on Monday. Yale finished second with a 183 and North Branch was third with a 190.

Richmond finished fourth with a 199, Armada was fifth with a 201, Croswell-Lexington was sixth with a 254 and Imlay City seventh with a 256.

Both Jack Jellison and Thomas Manko led the Raiders with a pair of 42s on the day, putting them tied for second overall individually. Seth VanHoutte and Jacob Rayl tied for eighth individually with a pair of 44s and Joe Berger and Paul Biolchini were tied for 15th overall with a pair of 49s.

Imlay City was led by Andy Hintz, who carded a 51 in the wet condition. He was followed by teammates Quinton Zinger with 57 and Mitch Allen with 58.

On Saturday, Almont finished third at the Gladwin Invitational at Sugar Springs Golf Course. Almont carded a team-total 348, while Ogemaw was first with a 315 and Laingsburg second with a 325.

Rayl finished with a 76 to lead the Raiders, placing fourth overall as an individual. Manko carded an 87, VanHoutte finished with an 89 and Nacho Aguire added a 96. For VanHoutte and Aguire, it was their first match at the varsity level.

CAPAC

The Chiefs claimed second at the Greater Thumb Conference meet by shooting a 228 at Holly Meadows on Monday. Kayden Braun carded a 46, which was the low score of the day, while Anthony Uribe shot a 52, a personal best. Josh Crane put forth a 59, also a personal best, and Cody Bobcean had a 71. — B.P.

NORTH BRANCH

The Broncos came in third at the Blue Water Area Conference meet at Richmond on Monday, combining for a 190. Gerrid Rutledge led the way with a 43, Ian Conley shot a 46 and Hunter Ratliff a 48. Brendan Perry and Adam Schadt each posted a 54 and with a 57 was Luke Wadley. — B.P.
