Brown City man leads police on three-county pursuit

BROWN CITY — A 31-yearold Brown City man was finally apprehended after leading police on a chase that spanned three counties March 5.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Dept. said deputies were in town assisting Brown City Police in apprehending a wanted fugitive and located the man in a vehicle around 3:40 p.m.

According to Sgt. Shelly Park, the Brown City man pulled a knife and held it to his own throat from inside the vehicle. Deputies were able to get the female driver and another male passenger out of the vehicle.

Deputies attempted to get the man to put the knife down when the man began swinging the knife at deputies.

After attempts to taser the man were ineffective, he then fled in the vehicle that he had stolen from the female subject who was giving him a ride.

Deputies pursued the suspect until he entered Lapeer County where the suspect’s vehicle topped 80 mph at times, where Lapeer County Sheriff’s deputies continued the pursuit which was later picked up by Tuscola County.

Tuscola County Sheriff’s deputies pursued the suspect through the county until the suspect rammed their patrol vehicle and eventually drove through a field, got stuck and fled on foot.

The man entered a house on Frankenmuth Road and attempted to steal a car but was confronted by the homeowner who had a gun. The suspect then attempted to disarm the homeowner.

Tuscola County deputies were able to arrest the Brown City man and transport him to the Tuscola County Jail. He is expected to face additional charges in Sanilac County for the incident, which remains under investigation. The man’s name is being withheld pending arraignment.
