PIX Atomic Radio Band

LAPEER Audiences at the PIX will be tuning into “atomic” radio at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Billed as “Detroit’s Premiere Cover Band,” the five talented members of Atomic Radio Band perform contemporary rock music of the 1980s from Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer” through to the rap stylings of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” An homage to the music of the great boy bands, Atomic Radio Band plays a concert not to be missed.

Atomic Radio Band is a relatively new name in the world of tribute and cover bands. The group formed two years ago in March, though the four original members of the band, Mike, Dave, Randy, and Darrin, had all been in different bands previously, including the well-known 50 Amp Fuse and Phoenix Theory. “They decided they wanted the freedom to play the music they loved while creating their own fresh new sound, and Atomic Radio Band was born,” said Katie Beth Chrismer, Communications Director with Center for the Arts of Greater Lapeer.

The band took off initially, much better than they’d expected. They experienced popularity almost immediately because of their history of performing with other area groups. They didn’t experience the struggle many bands do to get their name out there, and have already played at such notable venues as the Motor City Casino, Blue Chip Casino, Flat Rock & Riverview Music Festivals, and the Dearborn Homecoming Festival. These performances have met with great reviews from rock music fans across Michigan.

The four initial band members are Myke Grayshaw, who plays bass and sings, Dave Wells playing keyboard and on vocals, Randy Watson keeping the group together on drums and vocals, and Darrin Meetze on the guitar and vocals. To add a little balance to their group, the guys invited singer Brandi Page to join Atomic Radio Band last October. She’ll be sweetening their vocal sound as well as occasionally playing guitar or keyboard.

“Atomic Radio Band describes themselves with just two words – high energy,” said Chrismer. “You won’t have a chance for a nap during what fans have described as a ‘nonstop Atomic Radio dance party.’” Chrismer said that “dancing in the aisles of the PIX” is encouraged when fans hear all the songs they know from the 70s to today – classic hits from the radio that make listeners want to dance every single time they come on. Atomic Radio’s playlist includes the very best of top hits from all the rock artists fans know and love, from Journey to Bruno Mars, and more.
