Lady Lightning earn first win

LAPEER — The Lapeer girls’ basketball team notched its first win of the season after defeating Flint 53-13 on Friday. Hannah Erla and Olivia Norman both put up double digits in the win.

Lapeer grabbed a 15-6 lead in the first and never looked back, adding 16 in the second and held Flint to just three to lead 31-9 at halftime. The Lightning then held Flint scoreless in the third while pouring in 18 points. Both teams scored just four points each in the final quarter.

Hannah Erla put up 20 points, while Norman added 19. Emma Trisch chipped in six and Charity Dundas had four. Abbie Weiss added two and Hope Fischer and Paige Erla added one each.

Lapeer, 1-8, hosts Flint Powers on Friday. — K.R.

ALMONT

The Raiders were stumped, 52-25, at Yale last Friday.

The game was deadlocked after one frame, 10-10, but Yale’s 19-2 second-quarter spurt gave the Bulldogs some breathing room. They then went on runs of 9-7 and 14-6 to cap it off.

Brandi Kautz was the leading scorer for Almont with 13 points and Grace Johnson tallied eight points, including a pair of shots from beyond the arc. Skylar Stryker tossed in two points and with one point apiece were Lizzy Brandt and Hannah Revoldt.

Almont hosted North Branch on Tuesday after deadlines and will welcome Richmond on Friday. — B.P.

DRYDEN

The Lady Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and never looked back during a 58-11 win over Mayville on the road Friday.

Dryden led 22-2 after the first quarter and extended its lead to 33-8 at halftime. Following the break, the Lady Cardinals went on runs of 19-3 and 6-0 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, to secure the win.

Hannah Peyerk scored 20 points with four rebounds, three assists and three steals to lead Dryden. Ella Kage scored 12 with seven steals, four rebounds and four assists. Ally Sobek scored nine points with 10 rebounds, Jordan Peters, Kelli Schenkel and Paige Abromaitis had four points apiece, Natalie Poirier had three points and Kylie DeVlaminick had two.

Dryden, 7-1, visited North Huron Tuesday after we went to press. — A.V.

IMLAY CITY

The Lady Spartans couldn’t get into a rhythm in a 39-20 loss at Croswell- Lexington Friday.

Imlay City trailed 13-6 after the first quarter and 21-10 by halftime. The Lady Spartans were then outscored 11-4 in the third quarter and 7-6 in the fourth to end the game.

Kayla Louwsma led Imlay City with six points, eight rebounds and five steals. Mary Lengemann scored five points with five rebounds, Ana Lengemann scored four with one assist and one rebound, Emma Waatti had three points with one rebound and Kayla Rossen chipped in with two points and eight rebounds.

Imlay City, 5-3, was at Yale on Tuesday after we went to press. — A.V.

LAKEVILLE

The Lady Falcons swallowed a tough 51-2 loss at Chesaning last Friday. The Indians took a 27-2 lead after the first quarter and led 43-2 at the half. It was 47-2 heading into the final frame of the game.

Sarisa K. had the only two points with two steals, Doree Lincoln tallied four rebounds, one steal and one block and Kathryn Harcek four boards and a steal. Madison Costello had a rebound and a steal, Haylie Lamay stole the ball twice and Andrea Erwin snared three boards.

Charlotte Barron added a pair of rebounds and Savannah Martin one rebound and one steal.

LakeVille hosted New Lothrop after deadlines on Tuesday and is at Byron tomorrow. — B.P.

MAYVILLE

The Wildcats managed just five points against Kingston Monday, losing the game 63-5.

Carly Hoag and Julia Smith each scored two points, while Alexis Rutter chipped in a free throw. Mayville hosts North Huron Friday.

Last Friday, the Wildcats lost to Dryden 58-11 in their first home game in over a month.

Smith scored four points and Hoag, Madison Franzel, and Rutter chipped in with two points apiece. — L.P.

NORTH BRANCH

Reese Ruhlman had 14 points, seven rebounds, seven steals and five assists in the Broncos’ 42-37 win over Algonac Friday.

North Branch gave itself a comfortable 15-5 lead after one quarter, but Algonac tried to erase the deficit outscoring North Branch 20-12 in the second to bring the score to 27-25, still in favor of North Branch. The second half had North Branch on top with an 8-4 third quarter and Algonac had the upper hand in the fourth outscoring North Branch 8-7, but still came up short.

Emily Ludescher had 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, Amy Ludescher had 10 rebounds and Jade Andrzejewski chipped in with six points. — L.P.
