Providing food for those in need

Good Samaritan volunteer Bill Ruppert recently carried a case of lettuce leftovers to a car at Trinity Methodist Church’s Lapeer Area Food for Families Monday as his mother, Donna, looks on. Bill Palmer, who helps organize the 19-year-old program at the church, said 109 people took 15 cases of butter, Romaine and frill lettuce from Romeo’s Ross Farm in an hour on July 2. Palmer and the rest of the volunteers will be at the garage behind the church every Monday at 9 a.m. through the end of the growing season.
