Lapeer golf 10th at state finals

Photos by Austin VanDaele ALLENDALE TWP. — The Lapeer boys’ golf team finished 10th during the Div. 1 golf finals at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University last Friday and Saturday. Lapeer ended its season with a team-total 649 over two days, carding a 335 Friday and a 314 Saturday.

Grosse Pointe South took the title with a 299-299-598, Rockford was second with 312-305-617 and Birmingham Seaholm third with 316- 308-624.

The Lightning were led by Logan Cooper, who carded scores of 82 and 79 for a 161 total. Mason Cooper followed with an 88 on Friday and a 75 on Saturday for a 163. Carson Butterfield finished with a 76 and an 89 for a 165, Dylan Mullaney had rounds of 89 and 79 for a 168 and Caleb Keast finished with rounds of 98 and 81 for a 179 overall. — A.V.

Almont finished 11th overall in the Div. 3 state golf finals, held last Friday and Saturday at Forest Akers West at Michigan State University. Almont carded a team-total a 710 over two days, finishing with a 356 on Friday and a 354 Saturday.

Hanover-Horton won the state title after a fifth-person tiebreak lifted it over Big Rapids. Both Teams finished with scores of 321-330-651 for the tournament. Grosse Ile finished third with 336-324-660.

Individually, Jake Wendorf led the Raiders with rounds of 89 and 83 for a 172. Thomas Manko finished with a 92 and an 85 for a 177. Jacob Rayl had rounds of 82 and 96 to finish with 178 and Jack Demara finished with scores of 93 and 90 for a 183. — A.V.
