MSU holds weed tour June 27

LANSING — Nobody likes weeds, especially in their crops. Michigan State University is inviting area farmers to Weed Day, June 27, to learn about the latest in herbicide programs.

Sponsored by MSU’s Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences and the Department of Horticulture, the program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cost $25, if you pre-register, and $35 for on-site registration. The program will include recertification credits for Private, Commercial 1A, 1B Pesticide Applicators, and Certified Crop Advisors.

Phil Kaatz, the Extension Educator for Forage Management & Field Crops at MSU Extension in Lapeer Township, is offering to organize a carpool for interested farmers. Kaatz can be reached at 810-667-0341 or 810-338-5242.

This year’s Weed Tour will begin at 8:30 a.m. registration and coffee and donuts at 3735 N. College Road Lansing. At 9:30 a.m. there will be a discussion of weed control in orn and soybeans at the MSU Plant Pathology Field Lab, followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m.

At 1 p.m. farmers will have a choice of presentations on weed control in horticulture crops at the MSU Horticulture Farm, College Road (south of Jolly Road), or a discussion of non-GMO soybean weed control at the MSU Plant Pathology Field Lab.
