Now in its third year, Lynch’s Memorial Day tribute featured Lapeer VFW Post 4139 representatives Glenn Ream and Dan Little on-hand to oversee the replacement of the school’s flag. “They’re retiring their old flag,” said Little. “We presented them with a new flag, and we’ll take the old flag and dispose of it properly on Flag Day.” The new flag was then lowered to half-mast in honor of Memorial Day as Lapeer High School Wind Ensemble members, senior Ashlynne Patterson and junior Auston Brady, performed “Taps.”

Lynch Elementary School Principal Ryan West set the tone for the occasion, reminding students that as we enjoy the holiday weekend, we owe our ability to do so to those who fought for our freedom.

Following the ceremony, each of the school’s students planted a small American flag in the school’s lawn, where they’ll remain throughout the holiday weekend.
