Opioid overdose awareness program set for April 5

• Area residents concerned about opioid or heroin use can register for free training to learn how to prevent an overdose death. The one-hour training from 6-7:30 p.m. on April 5 at the Lapeer County Health Dept. at 1800 Imlay City Rd. will teach participants how to recognize signs of an overdose and to safely and correctly administer naloxone (sold under the brand name Narcan).

Cabin fever bingo

• This fun event is set for April 7 in North Branch at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church (Keenan Hall). Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available. The grand prize is a $100 gift certificate to Bryan’s Supermarket in Deerfield Township.

Church rummage sales planned

At least three area churches have rummage sales planned in the near future.

• Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Imlay City, 700 Maple Vista Drive, plans its rummage sale April 5-6, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. The rummage sale promises great deals on clothing, books, movies, toys, tools, appliances and other household items. More information can be obtained by calling Crystal Long at 810- 724-6790.

• St. Cornelius Catholic Church, 3834 N. Mill St., in Dryden will hold its rummage sale May 17-19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. More information can be obtained by calling Dolores Greenwald at 810-796-2944 or 810-338-8109.

• St. Mary’s Gigantic Garage Sale is set for May 17-19 at St. Mary’s Burnside, 5622 Summers Rd., North Branch Twp. More information can be obtained by calling 810-688-3797.

Meet a Seminarian in North Branch

• SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in North Branch will be the location of a Desert Meal set for April 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Desert Meal program is a way to support Seminarians in the Desert Formation Experience, a six-week period of intensive prayer, study and formation at Holy sites in the Holy Land for seminarians who will be future priests. Soups, salads, and desserts will be available (free will offering will be accepted). The event is open for all.
