Library association thanks Rep. Howell

Rep. Gary Howell, R-Deerfield Township, was honored by members of the Lapeer District Library on behalf of the Michigan Library Association Monday during a session of local office hours at Hungry Dan’s Restaurant in Lapeer. Rep. Howell was acknowledged and thanked for his support of Michigan libraries, their patrons and the communities they serve. Howell supported a bill in 2016, passed in 2017, that prevents millage money for public libraries to be diverted or captured by organizations such as Downtown Development Authorities or Tax Increment Finance Authorities. Gathered Monday were: Glen Alverson, a member of the Board of Trustees for the library; Melissa Malcolm, director of Lapeer District Library; Rep. Howell; and Janet Watz, chairperson of the library board.
