Relay for Life looking for helpers, participants

IMLAY CITY — Relay for Life, Lapeer County’s 24-hour walk to support the American Cancer Society’s fight against cancer is still nine months away.

However, Karen Hart, Relay’s event lead, is already looking for military vehicle collectors and re-enactors in the area.

The theme for next summer’s Relay will be Patriotic/Military and Hart said she’d like to see some displays around the walk route at the Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds in Imlay City.

The Relay path, which follows the fair’s midway loop, offers military vehicle collectors and re-enactors enough room to put on as large a patriotic display as they wish.

Relay’s next organizational meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at The First Congregational United Church of Christ, 275 Bancroft St. in Imlay City and continue the second Thursday of every month until the walk, set for June 9.

Hart said 19 teams and about 300 people participated in the 2017 Relay for Life. Hart said she’s looking for people to start a team, join an existing team, and/or join the planning committee.

Hart can be reached at 810-656-8771 or khart56@yahoo.com.
