TERRY LEE CARTER, 66, died on

November 11, 2015.

He was born on September 26, 1949, in Lapeer, to Laverne “Poddy” Carter and Agnes (Fosdick) Carter. Terry was a lifetime area resident. He graduated from Lapeer High School in 1967 and The University of Michigan-Flint.

Terry served his country four years in the US Coast Guard on Governor’s Island in New York City. While stationed there, he worked in the Communications Center, specifically in marketing and advertising. Upon returning to civilian life, he spent his career in advertising with The Spinal Column, Oakland Press and The Lapeer County Press. Terry was an avid fan of the opera and New York City and owned an enviable collection of classical music. He loved to visit and, of course, chat on the phone as most of his friends know! He could talk about Lapeer at the ‘drop of a hat’. Terry was retired at the time of his death.

Terry is survived by his brothers, Curt Carter (Marty Homan) of Lapeer and Michael (Jan ) Carter of Lecanto, FL; nephews, Dr. Barry Carter (wife Dr. Mary McLoughlin) of Lancaster, OH, and Brett (Kendra) Carter of Columbiaville; nieces, Lisa (Darrell ) Yens of Colorado Springs, CO, and Julie Morgan of Berkley; great-nephews, Mike Spoor of Atlanta, GA, Scott and Chris Carter of Lancaster, OH, and Cameron and Conner Carter of Columbiaville; great-nieces, Sarah (Herb) Hall of Lapeer, Katie Yens of Denver, CO, and Ashley Morgan of Berkley; great-great-nieces and nephews, Donovan, Aidan, Grace, Margaret, Hannah and Isabelle Hall of Lapeer.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Mary Lynne Carter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Suncrest Auxiliary, c/o Carol Grumley, 814 Gregory Dr., Lapeer 48446, or the Wayne State University School of Medicine, Anatomy/Body Bequest Program, 540 E. Canfield, Room 525, Detroit, MI 48201.

Terry donated his body to Wayne State University for medical research. The remains have now been returned to his family. A memorial service will be held at the Metamora Golf and Country Club on Sunday September 24, 2017 at 1 p.m.
