Today marks yet another shining example of the unity that our county is capable of demonstrating in times of need, as the VFW Hall, Post 4139 on Daley Road hosts a fundraiser for Matt Zeeman.

After a life-altering injury, Zeeman is now contending with a long and arduous recovery without the use of his legs. After a diving accident, Zeeman now has a severe spinal cord injury to his C7 vertebrae that has left him partially paralyzed. Fortunately, friends, family and community members have organized and coordinated efforts to help offset the monumental costs he will accrue during his recovery.

Today’s event is being hosted by Sawdust Corners Marathon Station and will be held at the VFW Hall from 12:30 -7 p.m. The afternoon will offer music, food, baked goods and a silent auction as friends and family work together to help raise money for Zeeman in his time of need. The event is free, but meals and donations are welcome.

Zeeman, who co-owns the Pizza Peddlers in Mayfield Township, will be unable to work for an undetermined amount of time. But, because of the men, women and children around the county that have stepped up to volunteer, help and donate toward Zeeman’s recovery, his medical and personal bills will be considerably reduced by the money raised today, as well as on the website GoFundMe.
