Rock of Ages to perform Thursday at Almont’s Music in the Park series

ALMONT — Almont Community Parks and Recreation Board’s Music in the Park series continues Thursday (July 20) with Rock of Ages. The band’s performance at Almont Community Park, which will run from 7-9 p.m. is sponsored by Aristo- Cast Inc.

Founded by Steve Figgins in Flint 15 years ago, the band has grown to be an 18-member group with three four-piece sections of saxophones, trombones and trumpets, along with a rhythm section that includes keyboard base and a full drum set. The band also has a vocalist.

Rock of Ages has expanded its original focus on swing music of the 1940s to include Motown and current hits. Following Rock of Ages there will be three more performances of Music in the Park this summer:

• Rockville, sponsored by Mobil-X, will perform July 27;

• The Hackwells, sponsored by Yarbrough Insurance will play Aug. 3;

• 3rd Degree Burns, sponsored by Vinckiers/Ace Hardware, will perform Aug. 10.

Almont Community Park, site of the music series, is at the east end of Water Street and the south end of the village.

In the event of rain, the concert will be held in the adjacent Almont Lions Club building at 222 Water St.

The Lions will sell refreshments during the concerts. For more information, call the Almont Village Office at 810- 798-8528.
