Spirit to overcome adversity alive, well

Today is the last day of April — a month designated as both National Child Abuse Prevention Month as well as National Autism Awareness Month. The County Press used the opportunity to bring you stories about the people and programs in Lapeer County that provide help and opportunities for children and families affected by child abuse as well as those people impacted by autism.

Some stories have been heartbreaking, while others were inspirational including the story on the front page of last Sunday’s paper about Bobby Smoke — a man with autism who has worked for 25 years at Bryan’s Supermarket in Deerfield Township.

Today in this space we sought to end the month as we began it — telling stories we’re certain you’ll never forget because they celebrate the human condition and spirit to survive and overcome adversity.
