Where was Trump’s backbone?

If President Trump was showing the world he has backbone by bombing Syria, I often ask where was his backbone when he asked for five deferments and got it so he didn’t have to get drafted and go into the service himself? Go figure.

A new sheriff in town

President Trump has done a lot in his first 100 days to restore the swagger of the United States lost to the country because of Obama. He leads with strength. He’s not afraid to use the military, and the world knows now there’s a new sheriff in town.

More reporting about ‘huge’ religious community

It’s nice to see the newspaper recognize the importance of religion and faith. In general, I think the media do a horrible job reporting about something so important to a lot of people. Keep up the good work, and please do more about our local religious community. It’s absolutely huge.

Hard ‘work’ was recognized

I’ve volunteered for several years with my church to help with a food ministry. It helps a lot of people who are struggling to make ends meet. Thanks for the shout-out to us. It’s nice to know our hard “work” is recognized for its importance in the community.

‘We’re not cheap”

I take issue with people who say if we might oppose the library millage that we’re “cheap.” It’s not being cheap to question the wisdom of purchasing property for $350,000 when it’s far from certain whether people will support a $12.5 million library at DeMille and Davison roads. We’re not cheap, but rather have questions about the proposal. There’s a huge difference.

Doing just fine, thanks!

It’s been said many times in this paper that the people of Lapeer County don’t expect much of themselves and the community, that the bar is set low. I disagree. I think we’re doing just fine here. If people want what Oakland or Macomb counties have, I suggest they move there. We live within our means.

Taxes hurt poor people

The thing to remember about millages and taxes is they often hurt poor people the most. Show some compassion, not everyone has a lot of money. In fact, most of us don’t.
