Season comes to an end for Lady Lightning

Photo by Brandon Pope FLINT – The Lapeer girls’ basketball team made quite a run this season, winning a district title before falling to Flint Metro League champion Flushing in the Mt. Pleasant south regional semifinal at Carman- Ainsworth on Tuesday, 60-39.

The first half was a very closely contested match-up as Flushing led 16-12 after one and 26-24 at the break. In the second half, though, is when the Raiders began to pull away with runs of 17-11 and 17-4 in the final two frames, respectively.

Lisa West led the Lightning with 11 points, Samantha Thick put up seven and Hanna Erla and Ashleigh Garcia each chipped in with six.

Lapeer finishes the season at 17-7 overall, 8-2 Saginaw Valley League-South. Flushing won the Class A regional Thursday after beating Midland Dow 45-39 at Mt. Pleasant. Tuesday Flushing, 21-3, plays Macomb Dakota, 19-2, in the Class A state quarterfinals at Davison at 6 p.m. – B.P.
