MARGARET MARY SMITH

MARGARET MARY SMITH, 95, a lifetime resident of Lapeer died Thursday, October 27, 2016.

Margaret was born February 14, 1921, in Detroit, to Arthur and Flossie “Flavie” (VanHie) Provost. Margaret graduated from Almont High School, class of 1939. She went on to attend County Normal School. Margaret married Ronald Hiram Smith on August 30, 1941 at the Liberty Street Gospel Church in Lapeer, Rev Hemmingway officiated. Margaret was a member of Calvary Bible Church since 1941. She was an active member of the Suncrest Auxiliary and a member of the Suncrest Board for many years. She was a member of the Golden warriors since 1976 and an active member of Calvary’s Missionary Society. Above all, Margaret was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Margaret is survived by her children, Alice Burke of Sparta, TN, Janice Hodge of Central Lake, James (Kathy) Smith of Sussex, WI, and William (Emily) Smith of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Marion Becker of Bellaire.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald (d, 2000); son-in-law, LeRoy Hodge (d, 2016); and her parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Bible Church or Suncrest Auxiliary.

Margaret’s funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Calvary Bible Church, Lapeer. Rev. Arnold Bracy and Rev. Jeremy Lazzel will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Lapeer.
