Mother charged in son’s stabbing death

MARATHON TWP. — A Marathon Township woman, 57, is being held at the Lapeer County Jail after apparently stabbing her disabled 24-year-old son multiple times in the chest and then stabbing herself as well.

Lapeer County Sheriff’s Dept. detectives declined to release the identity of the victim or the suspect during the early stages of the ongoing investigation as they still need to contact family members.
Det./Sgt. Jason Parks said the woman called Central Dispatch at 9:48 a.m. saying she had stabbed her son at their home on Briggs Road and then stabbed herself. The deceased had cerebral palsy. The pair were taken to McLaren Lapeer Region, where the man underwent emergency surgery, but he was declared dead at 12:37 p.m. It was overheard on emergency radio transmissions that the man was stabbed seven times with a butcher knife.
His mother was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the Lapeer County Jail where she remains on a suicide watch. She faces an open murder charge for the stabbing death of her son and is being held without bond.
