LAPEER COUNTY — The members of Murphy Girl Scouts Troop 70031 are doing what they can to help other children who may be less fortunate than themselves this holiday season.

The local Girl Scouts based out of Metamora are collecting items for care bags that will be given to foster children in the region.

Donations are being accepted at locations around the county through Dec. 10, when the Girl Scouts will meet and bag up all the donations they have collected. Donation boxes are located at Murphy Elementary School, Metamora Foodland, and the Metamora and deAngeli branches of the Lapeer District Library.

The Girl Scouts are hoping to collect enough items in four categories to make up a large number of care bags for foster children.

The four categories of items are basic hygiene items, including toothbrushes and toothpaste, combs, barrettes, deodorant and lotion; pajamas, including pajama sets, socks, underwear and diapers; blankets, including fleece or pieced soft blankets for children to snuggle with; and comfort items, including dolls or stuffed animals, books, crayons and pencils, and more.
