Lapeer East and West alumni baseball teams to square off
LAPEER — Familiar rivals will get the chance to face one another when Lapeer East and Lapeer West alumni baseball players kick off the inaugural games on Saturday, Sept. 14, one day after the East vs. West high school football game. The fundraiser for the Lapeer baseball summer program has been in the works for more than a year, says organizer and Lapeer West freshmen coach John DelCampo.
Games will be played at the Lapeer West baseball field with teams playing in at least three separate games. Legends, those graduating between 1984-1994, Veterans, consisting of grads from 1995-2005 and Rookies, the most recent grads from 2006 to 2013, will make up the competition. If enough interest comes to fruition, DelCampo says a fourth division will be added. Rookies will play at 11 a.m., Veterans at 1 p.m. and the Legends at 3 p.m. Games times are subject to change if the fourth squad comes into the mix.
Cost is $24 per player and includes a jersey with name and number and two tickets for the game. Fans will be charged $5 to watch the action. Spots are limited, says DelCampo, with only 12 players on each division's roster, so he recommends signing up immediately.
“There has been a tremendous amount of interest in the games since we first began discussing it last year," said DelCampo. "It should be a fun day of baseball and reminiscing." Vs.
