Man accidentally shoots self while unloading gun
LAPEER — Good Friday wasn’t for at least one Lapeer Township man.
Lapeer County Sheriff’s Dept. deputies were sent to McLaren Lapeer Region’s emergency room at 3:35 a.m. after hospital staff told Central Dispatch that a 30-year-old man had arrived with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Lt. James McLain said the man told Deputy Jules Reinhardt he was attempting to unload his .22 caliber rifle at his home on the 40 block Hill Place Drive when it accidentally went off, striking him in the leg. The man told Reinhardt that he called a friend who took him to the hospital, where he was treated and released with a superficial wound.
