LAPEER — Chef Jim Kokenyesdi will return to the PIX Theatre this week to give a hands-on demonstration of healthy cooking. The program, aptly titled Healthy Chef, takes place Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and is perfect for food lovers, cooks, and anyone who wants to make healthier food to lose weight.

The Healthy Chef program is designed to teach local residents how to make delicious but healthy recipes that will help with weight loss and staying on track with fitness related resolutions.

Nearly 30 people attended an event with Chef Jim in November, which was the first in a new series of lecture demonstrations at the PIX. Then, the chef taught guests how to make fast, simple holiday recipes just in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Chef Jim hopes to give local residents the tools and the know-how to get food management under control in order to meet those goals.

The recipes and techniques shown at the demonstration will focus on how to make healthy food without giving up any flavor.

Chef Jim currently oversees the Food Service Program at Community Mental Health in St. Clair County, where he focuses his culinary skills on making healthy dishes for clients and teaching others the often stress-relieving art of cooking.

As with the first program in November, guests at the Healthy Chef demonstration will have an up-close look at everything Chef Jim does. The program is informal as well, so anyone attending is free to ask questions throughout the program.

Chef Jim will likely pass out samples of the dishes for people to try as they are made, giving everyone a chance to taste them and see not only if they liked the dish, but also giving them a reference point on how it should taste when they make it themselves back at home.

Tickets for the Healthy Chef show cost $5 each, whether purchased in advance or at the door. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. For more information or tickets, go online to www.pixlapeer.org/healthychef or call the PIX Box Office at 810-664- 4824.
