Walk for Warmth this Saturday LAPEER — The 22nd annual Walk for Warmth takes place this Saturday, Feb. 25. Walk for Warmth is a statewide event sponsored by community action agencies, such as the Human Development Commission, to raise money to help local families in need of heat for their homes. Local citizens gather pledges and walk a one-mile route in the cold to keep others warm. Last year, HDC raised over $56,000 to help struggling families and senior citizens in Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac and Tuscola counties. Money raised in each county stays in that county. Walker registration on Saturday begins at 9 a.m., with the walk starting at 9:30 a.m. The walk will set out at the historic courthouse in downtown Lapeer. Participants will go home with T-shirts designed by contest winner Allyssia Gomez, 11, at Maple Grove Elementary School. To make a donation to the Walk for Warmth fund, get a pledge sheet or further info, call HDC at 810-664- 7133. |
