Still in the running for Tough Mudders LAPEER — Keep your fingers crossed. Lapeer County commissioner Cheryl Clark said last week that Tough Mudders, a premier weekend warrior event, is still seriously considering at least one site in the county. “We’re definitely in the running,” said Clark. After looking at several sites, the Tough Mudders representative narrowed the focus down to a city of Lapeer location at the former Oakdale site. Clark said she would be meeting with Lapeer City Manager Dale Kerbyson on the matter. “They need a lot of vacant land for their obstacles,” said Clark. DBar A Scout Ranch was among the sites considered, but Clark said the representative had concerns about parking on the hills. Clark said that if Tough Mudders settles on Lapeer, it will be the site of an event likely to be held in May of 2013. If so, it has the potential to bring 20,000 people to the area, and $1.5 million into the economy. Clark initiated discussions with Tough Mudders on behalf of KIND (Kids in New Directions), as a fundraising opportunity. |
