Daley focuses on agriculture issues in Washington D.C. WASHINGTON — State Rep. Kevin Daley took to Capitol Hill with agriculture and rural leaders from across North America as part of the 11th Annual Legislative Agriculture Chairs Summit. Daley, chair of the Michigan House Agriculture Committee, gave a presentation on the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) at the Jan. 5-8 conference. “With Michigan the second-most agriculturally diverse state in the nation, I was proud to have our state recognized on a national level and present to agriculture leaders from all over North America,” said Daley, RLum. “The MAEAP is a great example of how Michigan successfully encourages agri-business growth by working with farmers and streamlining regulations. Implementing similar management plans to states facing agriculture issues can help improve resources and crop production.” The future of international agriculture trade, agriculture regulations, food safety, farmland taxation, invasive species and rural energy were also discussed. The summit provided state legislators with the tools they need to help grow rural communities and keep agriculture profitable. “Agriculture is one of the few industries in the U.S. that has a positive balance of trade,” Daley said. “I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the conference and touring both the White House and Washington, D.C.” |
