Nursing assistant course to be offered at MCC-Lapeer

LAPEER — The Continuing Education Dept. at Mott Community College’s Lapeer Extension Center is offering a one-month long, state-accredited training program for individuals interested in careers as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).

CNAs provide handson care and perform routine tasks under the supervision of nursing and medical staff, and the job outlook for CNAs is excellent. Anyone interested in pursuing a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant can expect numerous job opportunities in the field. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment for Certified Nursing Assistants, also known as nurse aides, is projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2018.

The 120-hour training program offered at MCC Lapeer (550 Lake Drive) is approved by the State of Michigan and includes comprehensive classroom instruction, laboratory and clinical practice that prepares students to provide basic nursing or nursing-related care in today's hospitals and extended care facilities. Students who successfully complete this course are eligible to take the state clinical and written competency tests.

The class will be held from Nov. 21 through Dec. 15 four days a week for four weeks. Ten days are spent in the classroom and six days in a facility. Tuition is $1,300, along with an additional estimated cost of $200 for supplies and testing fees.
