McLaren, LRMC welcome new surgeon
Dr. Farber is board-certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care, with a medical degree from New York University’s School of Medicine and fellowship training in trauma and emergency surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He previously served as medical director of trauma and surgical critical care at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine and St. Mary’s of Michigan Medical Center. His experience also includes a medical directorship for a neurotrauma intensive care unit, as well as fellowships in general surgery, surgical infectious disease, surgical critical care, and trauma and emergency surgery.
Dr. Farber’s addition to the LRMC team will play a pivotal role in the process of LRMC becoming certified as a Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons. A trauma center is a hospital distinguished by its organized, systematic approach of caring for a trauma patient.
To be designated as a trauma center, a hospital must have adequate facilities, specialized health care providers, ongoing staff training, and continuous self-monitoring, as well as be involved in trauma prevention and community outreach.
“We are excited to have such a distinguished and welltrained physician joining our team,” said Bart Buxton, president and CEO, LRMC. “His trauma and critical care expertise will be a major asset to our entire community as we continue to develop our trauma program at Lapeer Regional
Dr. Farber will join fellow surgeon Ruben Toribio, M.D., medical director of the LRMC Trauma Program at LRMC.
“The trauma program is a coordinated effort among multiple disciplines at LRMC and emergency medical services providers,” said Dr. Toribio. “We offer a full range of surgical procedures around the clock with entire teams of medical professionals on site or available within 30 minutes of notification of the arrival of a critically injured patient. Our rapid response ensures that the patient is receiving appropriate care during the most critical first hour of their treatment. Dr. Farber, who has training and experience in trauma surgery, critical care, and infectious disease, will make an excellent addition to our trauma team.”
Dr. Farber also joins physicians at McLaren Community Medical Center in Lapeer who specialize in family care, pediatrics, urology, gastroenterology, and obstetrics and gynecology. Dr. Farber is now accepting referrals at 810-664-4531.
