Lapeer Twp. begins to seek funds for parks and rec plan LAPEER TWP. — With plans to add a pavilion, walking trails and eventually playground equipment to the township property underway, the Lapeer Township Board is now in the process of finding funds for the project. During its regular meeting Monday, March 8 the board was given a preliminary grant packet prepared by Dawn Walker, township clerk, to look over. Walker plans to submit the grant packet to the Lapeer County Community Foundation by the end of the month. The board was happy with Walker’s work and supported her turning it into the LCCF. Along with seeking grant money to fund the project the board also discussed possibly using the help of students from Lapeer’s Ed-Tech center for the actual construction of at least the pavilion. Also during the meeting the board: • Approved a soil removal ordinance after Cory Maybery from Davis Land Surveying went over the ordinance in detail with the board members. • Approved a resolution in support of a land acquisition for a parcel of land adjacent to the township property. A public hearing regarding the purchase of the land will be part of the planning commission’s regular meeting, 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 15. • Approved the release of funds for annexed properties. • Approved payment to Oakridge lawn for $299.25 for lawn spraying services. • Heard that the township’s monthly security system bill to ADT is increasing by just more than $6. The board agreed that while the increase was small, the increases have been steady, and that they would begin to gather quotes from other security companies to see if a savings could be found. • Approved a resolution allowing residents to protest the Board of Review by letter. Until that resolution was passed only non-residents could protest by letter. • Voted to send an outstanding fire run bill to collections. • Approved zoning ordinance text amendments. • Decided to table a billing matter between the township and Lakes, Lawn & Landscaping until the township trustees, who were absent at Monday’s meeting, were present. |
