Online credit cards, e-checks accepted by county treasurer

LAPEER — Lapeer County Treasurer Dana Miller announced that the county can now accept tax payments online or on the telephone via credit card or electronic check. The new capability went into effect on Feb. 26.

Credit cards can only be accepted online or on the telephone — they cannot be accepted at the county offices. Checks and cash can be accepted at the county offices.

The credit card service has been instituted at no cost to the county; however, online users will incur a fee imposed by the credit card company. None of the fee goes to the county.

Three percent of the amount being paid will be charged for credit card payments. On amounts above $10,000, the fee is $15.

Electronic checks will be processed for a flat $3 fee.

To make a payment online or by phone, you must have your property ID number. To pay online, go to www.officialpayments.com and choose the option to Make a Payment. Then, click on Local Payment. Enter the necessary information and submit your payment.

To make a payment by phone, call 888-272-9829. Select Option 3. Enter the Jurisdiction Code 7120. Then, follow the messages and input data where necessary. Wait for your confirmation number.



Unrestricted access to be available to web site subscribers

Subscribers to the County Press newspaper can now purchase the complete online and E-Edition of the paper for as little as $5 for three months. If you want a six month subscription to the online edition it is $10 and a full year can be purchased for $20.

Non-subscribers can sign up for the online version for $15 for three months, $30 for six months and $60 for an annual subscription.
