LRMC offers series of life support classes LAPEER — Lapeer Regional Medical Center will offer a series of life-support classes developed by the American Heart Association to bring awareness to employees and the community about the importance of learning CPR to save lives. The series is comprised of three individual classes. Details are provided below: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers: This class is for health care providers and others who need a credential (card) documenting successful completion of the American Heart Association CPR course. Topics include CPR for all ages, which include ventilation with a bag-mask device, use of an AED and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. Participants will be required to demonstrate knowledge and competency through a written and performance examination. The cost for the BLS training is $50 for the Provider class (first time participants), which runs 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and $30 for the Recertification class, which runs 1:30-4 p.m. on the following dates: Feb. 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, June 16, July 21, Aug. 11, Sept. 22, Oct. 13, Nov. 10 and Dec. 15. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Classes: This twoday class is intended for health care providers who may need to respond to a cardiovascular emergency. The purpose is to enhance skills necessary for the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergency. Learning includes hands-on participation through learning stations where participants will practice essential skills and function as a team leader. Completion of the course will require successful scores in the practical and written exam. The cost is $225 ($100 for McLaren associates and EMS.) The class runs 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the following dates: April 22-23, June 17-18, Oct. 14-15. The Recertification course is one-day renewal class and the cost is $175 ($50 for McLaren associates and EMS.) The provider manual is included in the course fee. Classes are from from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the following dates: Feb. 25, April 29, June 24, Aug. 17, Sept. 9 and Oct. 28. To register or for details: Camille Gepfrey at 810-667-5528. Heartsaver/First Aid Course: LRMC is now offering the American Heart Association's Heartsaver/First Aid Course for the community. This class, recommended for day care providers, teachers, police, security and other non-healthcare providers, consists of CPR and choking for the adult/child/infant. Instruction and training on AED use will be included along with basic first aid skills. Participants must attend both classes, scheduled for March 24 and March 31 or Aug. 5 and 12. Classes take place 4-7:30 p.m. The cost is $60. Upon completion, participants will receive the AHA Heartsaver/First Aid card.
