Imlay City film series begins Tuesday IMLAY CITY — Last year’s animated film Monsters vs. Aliens, will kick off the Imlay City Downtown Development Authority’s (DDA) free Winter Movie Series. The first of four free films will show at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Imlay City Cinema at 543 North Cedar Street. “I’m just carrying the torch,” said Monica Irelan, the DDA’s new executive director, explaining the project was the brainchild of former executive director Nancy Jean Brinker. She said Cinema owner Remo Querciagrossa has come up with a list of “kid friendly” movies. Irelan said DDA, with the help of Querciagrossa, will show a free film every other week through March. In the coming weeks the DDA will offer Hotel For Dogs, Madigascar and yet-to-be-selected film. Nominated for three Annie Awards this year, Monsters vs. Aliens features the voices of Reece Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Kiefer Sutherland, Rainn Wilson and Stephen Colbert. When Susan Murphy (Witherspoon) turns into a giant monster after being hit by a meteorite she leads a motley crew of monsters from secret government compound in a desperate to save the world from aliens. Irelan said Querciagrossa is also offer a special soda and popcorn combo for the Winter Movie Series — $2 for a small, $3 for a medium and $4 for a large.
