Plea deal for Metamora man in IRS case

DETROIT— A Metamora man is facing up to a year and a half in jail after pleading guilty to filing a false income tax return in 2004. Arnold Oseland, 66, of pleaded guilty in front of Federal District Judge Victoria A Roberts Nov. 23.He’s been set for sentencing April 12.An IRS spokesman said Oseland was accused of filing false tax returns between 2002 and 2005 while work-ing as an independent contractor for Incat Inc.IRS agents said Oseland deposited his fees from Incat into a corporate account and failed to report his earnings to the IRS.In a negotiated plea, Oseland pleaded guilty to not paying $36,070in taxes on an income of $198,161 in2004.While the maximum penalty for fil-ing a false tax return is three years ifederal prison, the IRS is recommending Oseland be sentenced to between12 and 18 months. — Phil Foley
