      BROWN CITY — Harbor Beach and Brown City tried to minimize the distance league leading Sandusky put between itself and them last Thursday at Brown City, with Brown City coming out on top in this one, 55-49, after a hard fought, turnover-laden game. Both sides created way too many costly turnovers that kept the score tight throughout the contest.

Chiefs taken to task by state-ranked Richmond
      CAPAC — It had to happen sooner or later—the BWAC battle between Capac and state-ranked Richmond — and last Wednesday was the day as the Blue Devils showed the Chiefs why they are among the best in the state, winning in convincing style, 51-18. Capac, 6-1 BWAC, 35-6 overall, also scored a 70-6 win over Mayville.

Local martial artist crowned champ
      AUBURN HILLS — Kelly Warren, a second year mixed martial arts competitor out of Dragon Karate of Lapeer was the marquee fight of the night Jan. 30 at the Impact Fighting Championships at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Warren was crowned the 115 lb. champion after winning her second round fight by choke. Warren earned the title, bragging rights and the championship belt.
